It is important to clarify that Bruichladdich does not currently have an age-stated 20-year-old expression in its active, year-round core range. If you encounter a bottle of “Bruichladdich 20-Year-Old,” you are looking at a piece of distillery history. These bottlings—often referred to as the “First, Second, or Third Editions”—were released in the early 2000s, shortly after the distillery was resurrected from its period of closure. These bottles are celebrated by collectors for being some of the last spirits distilled under the “old” era of the distillery, often featuring adventurous wine-cask finishes (like the famous “Flirtation” edition finished in Mourvèdre wine casks) that defined the experimental spirit of the brand’s revival.
